Oxford University's Department of Economics has recently launched the Centre for Quantitative Diversity Studies, marking a significant stride in advancing research on diversity through the lens of quantitative methods. Many outstanding quantitative researchers are working on diversity and inequality across Departments and Divisions at the University of Oxford and beyond. At the same time, we lacked a platform for those researchers to meet, share ideas, and potentially start collaborations. The Centre for Quantitative Diversity Studies was established to fill this gap with the aim of supporting the development of excellent interdisciplinary, quantitative research on diversity in Oxford and beyond.
The Centre focuses on quantitative research not to reinforce methodological divides, but because we see a particular need to foster collaboration and promote quantitative research on diversity and to highlight that quantitative work can also be diverse. With a mission to foster collaboration across disciplines, the Centre aims to emphasise the complexities of diversity through rigorous quantitative analysis and empirical investigation.
The Centre currently forms a platform to meet, to foster collaboration, and to disseminate research on diversity. Our long-term goals are to sustain research capacity in quantitative diversity research and to promote interdisciplinary quantitative diversity work.
The Centre is currently co-directed by Barbara Petrongolo and Mathias Fjællegaard Jensen – please reach out to us on communications@economics.ox.ac.uk for enquires about Centre activities and collaborations.
